LK8000 is the only "turbulence proof" flight
computer for PDAs and PNAs (car navigators), working only with touchscreen. It
works on any Windows CE 4, 5 or 6 device, and on PC. It was designed to work in
landscape mode, because all PNAs have landscape screens. It was designed to
work with no hardware keys or buttons, because PNAs do not have them. It
supports all PNAs resolution (480x272, 480x234, 800x480, 400x240, 320x240,
640x480), and it has been well tested on all major car navigators on the
market. It works wonderfully on the chinese devices that come only with CE
installed. It manages two simultaneous serial lines with automatic fallback and
full redundance. Glider's, Paraglider's and Delta pilots are fully supported.
During next months, also engine powered aircraft support will be added, making
the LK a unique flight computer for all purposes.

Version 1.22b is ready!
This is an
officially stable version.
Download the new
1.22 manual
MS WORD DOC: LK8000_MANUAL_122.doc
Thanks to all the
alpha testing team people!
Some of the 1.22
features that are well documented now inside the brand new 1.22 manual are...
New LKMAPS!
We now have new
dedicated maps for LK8000, still keeping backward compatibility with old and
obsoleted xcsoar maps. The new maps are called LKMAPS, and they are freely
available from http://www.bware.it/listing/LKMAPS
Notice: if you are
using Windows Vista, the LKM files will be saved as ZIP. In this case, rename
.ZIP in .LKM. DEM and LKM files must be placed inside _Maps as usual.
We are still
producing world maps, and we expect that the database will be completed in a
few weeks. Anybody can request special maps for small or large areas.
Preview are
available for each area, for example:

Terrain data is
obtained from the latest (December 2009!) NASA SRTM dataset, and it is always
available at all possible DEM resolutions. 1000m resolution down to 250m!
A gift for Alpine
pilots from LK8000: a detailed elevation map in full resolution 250m, excellent
for color print outs! Download it HERE (2Mb)
The advantage to
use LKMAPS is that terrain is always available at the best possible resolution,
without creating memory problems in your PDA or PNA. Many maps available on the
internet for xcsoar are too big to fit in memory, and will not be usable.
Having a good
terrain elevation data is necessary, since LK8000 is constantly calculating
terrain collisions during flight towards your destination, both for the nearest
and the furthest obstacle.
Let's talk about
TOPOLOGY now! LKMAPS have enhanced topology. For europe, topology is even more
enhanced, with corrected town positions, more detailed roads, medium cities,
small cities, very small cities, lake and river names, and all of them fully
configurable! You can choose what to see, up to the desired zoom level.
Let's compare old
and new topology: 7km zoom, old topology:

7Km zoom, LKMAPS:

Old topology:

New topology:

You now have full
control over the new LKMAPS topology, from Configuration menu 4:

AND THERE'S MORE
THAN THIS. A totally redesigned automatic decluttering system will avoid your
screen to be full of unreadable labels, both for waypoints, airports and
topology. At any zoom level you are
granted to have always the best possible moving map experience, with no rivals
even among commercial products.
(the infamous
problem of water filled land areas, making the netherlands and many portions of
lands near seaside in the world appearing as water, is now solved in LK8000).
Paraglider's and
Delta racing: Time Gates
1.21 supports the
task Time Gates for Paragliders and Delta pilots.

Start is
configurable as both IN and OUT of sector-cylinder. Estimated time-to-go based
on current MC and distance to the start line, for efficiently crossing the
start line at the correct time without penalities. This functionality is good
also for Grand Prix races for gliders, and it is fully configurable.
______________________________________
All versions 1.21
have the new traffic pages, supporting FLARM traffic display with
innovative functions and the consolidated turbulence-proof user interface.
Traffic pages are
both textual and graphical, for portrait and landscape mode.

Up to 50
simultaneous traffic, sortable by distance, direction, average vario and
altitude, all values updated in real time. Support for Live, Ghost and Zombie
traffic, fully configurable. Selection of individual traffic for more details.
Full support for FlarmNet
database (www.flarmnet.org)

Once selected, a
target appears on 2 separate pages, one textual and one graphical.
Target's estimated
Air Speed (eIAS) is displayed, with all other informations.

Target traffic special "sight" page with
glide path to the moving target, estimated IAS of target, arrival altitude on
target's position, requested efficiency to arrive on target's.

The shown
position of target is relative to the estimated altitude arrival over there!
If a target is 5km ahead, with a lower altitude, you
may be nevertheless much lower when you get there. So the Sight page is showing
you what is your real situation, compared to the target's position, estimated
for current wind and MC.
NO BUTTONS to press, no configuration needed: it is
all automatic, and "turbulence proof". When a target had disappeared
for some time, and suddenly it is back visible by the "Flarm Radar",
a Scramble message will appear on screen to alert you.
Now working on the "tutoring" function: when
you are tutoring people after you, you want to know how they are going, at your
back!

Some informations on the HP Ipaq 310/314
HOW TO
SET BACKLIGHT ON HP310/314
This procedure set correctly the backlight timeout on
Ipaq 310/314.
From Windows CE desktop, Start -> Settings ->
Control Panel:
There will be no more timeout in Backlight now.
Please note that LK8000 has automatic backlight
management, sound management and icon support on desktop. I own
a 314, and I have developed the LK for it and for all other PNA.
HOW TO
stop HP310/314 switching off or locking up
during a
flight.
You might already have experienced a power loss
lookalike in your HP31X. If happening during a flight, it can be also dangerous
not to mention the task informations and the lost IGC log. We discovered that
it's a stupid hardware problem, very easy to fix. Symptoms are: black screen,
no way to power it on again, hardware reset needed.

Open the battery compartment of your HP31x, and locate
the small switch which is deactivated when you remove the cover. The cover can
move during a flight, and the small switch will cut off power resulting in a
complete crash. You can avoid all of this with a small piece of tape properly
placed there to keep the switch always pressed.

Push the tape in the hole with a tool, so that the
switch is well pressed. Apply twice. Once done, you can check that the fix is
working by resetting the PNA with the back cover still off.
