Updated: Oct 9, 2009

Development is going ahead very quickly! We are now officially at Version 1, with many subversions following. This is the development version which is already used during flights by betatesters. The official version 2.0 is expected by Christmas, as a gift for all of you.

Rehi! Flying season is almost over here in Europe, autumn has arrived, and rainy days will give me more time to dedicated to this software. There are some news, indeed.

I am no longer supporting the PNA and PDA versions of XCSoar on www.xcsoar.org . And until I am ready to distribute my own version, together with the source code, I have been asked by other developers to stop distributing the alfa and beta versions, according to the GPL rules.

Also, the name "XCSoar" will change, upon request.

Please use the PostFrontal forum section dedicated to the LK8000 for questions and discussions about this version. Do not use the Nabble mailing list because I am no longer writing in there, for the time being.

The official LK8000 forum URL is:

http://www.postfrontal.com/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=11

I am no more distributing the old versions, also because the current state of the project is well beyond those betas. I'll post some pictures here in a couple of days, together with the list of new things that are onboard now!

Have no time to say more right now, so come back later on to see the Real thing coming up!

Paolo

Some informations on the HP Ipaq 310/314

HOW TO SET BACKLIGHT ON HP310/314

This procedure set correctly the backlight timeout on Ipaq 310/314.

From Windows CE desktop, Start -> Settings -> Control Panel:

There will be no more timeout in Backlight now.

Please note that XCSoar users starting with version 5.2.3Fb2.2 have automatic backlight management.

HOW TO stop HP310/314 switching off or locking up

during a flight.

You might already have experienced a power loss lookalike in your HP31X. If happening during a flight, it can be also dangerous not to mention the task informations and the lost IGC log. We discovered that it's a stupid hardware problem, very easy to fix. Symptoms are: black screen, no way to power it on again, hardware reset needed.

Open the battery compartment of your HP31x, and locate the small switch which is deactivated when you remove the cover. The cover can move during a flight, and the small switch will cut off power resulting in a complete crash. You can avoid all of this with a small piece of tape properly placed there to keep the switch always pressed.

Push the tape in the hole with a tool, so that the switch is well pressed. Apply twice. Once done, you can check that the fix is working by resetting the PNA with the back cover still off.
